I’m joined by, Jarius Khokhar an expert on Middle Eastern geopolitics. Thanks for joining us,
Let’s start with the rich history of Aleppo. This city has been a cornerstone in human civilization for millennia. In fact, the Bible mentions that Abraham, a key figure for the followers of Bani Israel, used to graze his sheep here. Can you share a bit more about Aleppo’s ancient significance?
That’s fascinating! But, of course, Aleppo’s history hasn’t been without its struggles. Fast forward to the 2010s, and the city became a battleground in Syria’s civil war. Can you explain the significance of the war for Aleppo, especially from 2012 to 2016?
The destruction was unimaginable. But then, in 2016, the civil war seemed to reach a turning point. Bashar al-Assad, with support from Russia and Hezbollah, emerged victorious. But the peace didn’t last long. Just a few years later, in November 2023, Aleppo faced another wave of violence. Can you walk us through what happened during the bombing attacks on November 27th?
That’s a crucial point—the role of external forces in the Syrian conflict. You mentioned that Hayat al-Tahrir al-Sham is backed by Turkey and other NATO countries. But they’re also fighting against Bashar al-Assad’s forces. It’s such a tangled web! Could you break down the main players in this conflict?
It sounds like alliances are constantly shifting. What role does Turkey play in all of this? And why is it so important in the broader regional struggle?
It’s incredible how much is at stake for regional and global powers. One last question: How does the situation in Aleppo and Syria look now, and what’s next for this region?
